Landscaping and Brush Clearing for Conestoga's Ridge and River-Hill Properties
Red Rose Landscaping is a family-owned crew working out of the southwest side of Lancaster. Conestoga sits about seven miles south-southwest of the city, so we’re not coming far. We’ve been doing this over ten years: mulch and bed work, spring and fall cleanups, pruning, seeding, stone, and the overgrown properties other crews would rather not quote.

Why Conestoga Homeowners Call Us for the Hard Ground
Conestoga sits on a ridge between the Conestoga River on one side and Pequea Creek on the other, at about 500 feet, and the ground falls away hard toward both. Lots run big and wooded. The Pequea watershed is roughly a quarter forest and barely three percent developed. That means long driveways, deer, woodland edges creeping into the lawn, and banks too steep to mow. Six villages spread across the township, so no two calls look alike.

About Red Rose Landscaping in Conestoga, PA
Conestoga Township was formed in 1712, when this was still Chester County. Lancaster County didn’t exist until 1729. Conestoga Centre came later, in 1805, on ground where John Kendig had been running a tavern since 1790. You can read that age in the properties. Old farm lanes turned into driveways, stone walls and hedgerows older than anybody’s lawn, tree lines left standing where nobody wanted to farm the slope. Down at Colemanville the county rebuilt the 1856 covered bridge in 1992 and raised it six feet to keep it out of the water, which tells you most of what you need to know about how Pequea Creek behaves. Water moves here, and it takes soil with it.
We handle mulching and bed installation, cleanups, pruning and hedge shaping, brush and vine clearing, seeding, topsoil and erosion work, stone and paver installation, and storm debris. Chipping on site when it makes sense. Everything is pet-friendly. There’s no monthly contract and no minimum number of visits. Call when the property needs it, once a year or four times.
Our Landscaping Services in Conestoga, PA
Most Conestoga calls fall into a few buckets: beds that need mulch and a clean edge, a season’s worth of leaves off a wooded lot, a bank that’s washing out, or brush that has closed in on a fence line. Here’s what we do about each.
Mulching and Bed Maintenance
Up on the ridge and along the hillsides, beds drain fast and dry out quicker than flat valley ground, and on any grade the mulch wants to travel in a hard rain. We cut a deep edge so the bed holds its line, and we keep depth honest, two to three inches, pulled back off the stems. On shaded lots under old canopy that matters more, not less. Bark packed against a shrub in damp shade is how you lose the shrub.
Spring and Fall Property Cleanups
Fall runs long here. Wooded lots on the Pequea side hold leaves well past Thanksgiving, and if they mat down over a lawn through a wet winter you’re reseeding in April. We do a real fall pass, sometimes two, and haul the material off. Spring is different work: winter limb drop, matted leaves out of the beds, cutting back perennials, and getting the beds right before everything leafs out and you can’t see what you’re doing.
Shrub Planting, Removal and Clean Bed Edging
Plenty of properties out here are older houses on big lots, with foundation plantings that have been in the ground longer than the current owners. Yews and junipers up over the windows, hollow in the middle, nothing left underneath. We take those out, roots included, and put in something sized for the spot instead of something you’ll fight in ten years. On wooded lots with heavy deer pressure, we’ll tell you straight what is going to get browsed.
Overgrowth Removal
Woods win if you let them. Along the edge of a wooded lot the line moves in a few feet a year: multiflora rose, brambles, tree-of-heaven and honeysuckle seedlings, grapevine pulling down whatever it can reach. We cut the line back to where you want it, clear the junk out from under the good trees, and reopen the parts of the property you stopped walking through. Rentals and places that sat empty a season are normal work for us.
Top Soil and Spreading
On sloped ground, topsoil is only useful if it stays. We bring in screened soil to fill low spots, correct grade away from a foundation, or build enough depth to actually grow grass where somebody scraped it down to subsoil. On a bank we key it in, then seed and cover it the same day rather than leaving bare dirt out overnight ahead of a storm. Small fixes at the top of a slope save a lot of work at the bottom.
Leaf and Debris Cleanup
Leaf volume on a wooded lot here is a different number than in town, and one pass with a rake isn’t it. We come with equipment sized for the property and we haul the material off instead of blowing it to the property line, which only becomes next year’s problem. We get the corners too: beds, window wells, fence lines, and the strip along the drive where it always packs in.
Brush, Vine, Ivy and Overgrowth Clearing
English ivy and Asian bittersweet do real damage out here, slowly enough that nobody notices until a tree is carrying a hundred pounds of vine. We cut vines off the trunks, pull the mats off the ground where we can, and clear brush back off driveways, sheds and outbuildings. If a stand has gotten thick enough to need a machine, we bring one. If it’s tight to a bank or a stream edge, we do it by hand.
Shrub and Small Tree Pruning
Pruning on a big wooded property is mostly clearance and health: limbs off the roof, off the driveway where the delivery truck scrapes, and out of the way of the mower. On ornamentals we prune to the plant’s habit and season instead of shearing everything into a ball in July. Storm-damaged limbs come off clean so the wound closes. Anything that needs to be climbed or dropped near the house is a tree company’s job, and we’ll say so.
Erosion Control and Slope Stabilization
This is the service the terrain here demands. Water off a 500-foot ridge doesn’t sit around. It runs, and it runs toward Pequea Creek or the Conestoga. We fix the small stuff before it turns into a channel: swales and diversions to move runoff where you want it, stone in the wash lines, seeding and cover on bare banks, and planting that holds ground once the roots are in. Downspouts dumping onto a slope get dealt with too.
Our Vegetation Services in Conestoga, PA
Some of this work is less about landscaping and more about taking ground back. Vines, poison ivy, brush that has swallowed a fence, limbs low over the drive, whatever the last storm dropped. If it’s green and it’s in your way, it’s on this list.
Poison Ivy and Invasive Vine Removal
Poison ivy is everywhere along wooded edges and old fence lines here, and it climbs. The hairy vine up an oak trunk is the same plant as the ankle-high stuff. We remove it root and vine, with the gear to do it without spreading oil across the rest of the property. Bittersweet, grapevine and Virginia creeper come off structures and trees at the same time. Never burn it, and don’t run a mower through it.
Hedge and Privacy Screen Shaping
Screening matters more on an open ridge lot than people expect, because you’re planting against wind and sightlines, not just neighbors. We shape existing hedges so they stay full to the bottom, which means keeping the top narrower than the base so light reaches the lower growth. Where a screen has gone leggy or thin, we’ll tell you whether it can be brought back over a couple of seasons or whether you’re better off replacing that run.
Ground-Level Limb Cutbacks
Long driveways out here get narrow fast. Branches come down over the lane a little more each year until the delivery truck and the oil truck are both scraping. We cut back from the ground with pole gear: driveway clearance, limbs off the roof edge, sightlines at the end of the drive, and low growth over walkways. No climbing, no bucket work. When a job needs either, we tell you and you call a tree service.
Storm Debris Cleanup
Storms come up the river valley and the wooded lots take the brunt. Afterward we clear what’s down: limbs across the drive, tops out of the yard, brush piled against a fence. We cut it into manageable lengths, chip what makes sense and haul the rest. If you want firewood lengths stacked, say so and we’ll leave it that way. Power lines are the utility’s job, not ours, and we won’t touch them.
Lot, Fence Line and Yard Clearing
Fence lines are where properties get lost out here. Brush grows through the wire, a locust seedling turns into a tree in the line, and eventually you can’t get a mower within six feet of it. We clear fence rows back to open ground, cut lot lines so you can see your corners again, and open up pasture edges and unused back acreage. Bring us a property nobody has touched in five years and we’ll give you a real plan for it.
Chipping and Debris Reduction
We chip on site when it makes sense. It cuts the number of trips, and on a wooded property the chips have somewhere useful to go: paths, the base of a bank, rough beds under trees. If you don’t want them, they leave with us. Either way you’re not left with a brush pile behind the shed that sits there until next spring.
Removal of Downed Limbs and Fallen Trees
Trees come down out here without a storm to help: old hedgerow trees, ash killed by borers, anything sitting on a slope with a shallow root plate. We cut and remove what’s already on the ground, clear it off the lawn and back from the woods edge, then clean up the ruts and scars afterward. Standing removals near a house are a tree company’s job.
